Freeing My Mind...Claiming My Birthright!
November 5, 2007
"It is not my right to be common-if I can. I seek opportunity-not security.
I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to
succeed. I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges
of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the
stale calm of utopia. I will not trade freedom for benefice nor my
dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to
any threat. It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think
and act for myself, enjoy the benefit of my creations and to face the world
boldly and say, this I have done...I do not choose to be common."
I found this quote by Dean Alfange in my What Makes the Great Great book.
What I love about this quote is that it helps me to stand fast just
that much more in claiming my birthright of success, of power and of
freedom to be who and what I was put here to be.
It is the craziest thing to me...the design of this thing called life.
Before we come we KNOW who and what we are. We know that we are returning
to the physical realm to have particular experiences and learn certain
lessons.
BUT when we enter the womb and especially once we are born...we forget. We
learn all sorts of things. We have the seed of potential within us.
We begin to wonder what is true: what we see with our eyes or what
we know within the core of our essence?
Many of us go with what we see. We begin to think that we are not
limitless beings. We accept as truth that the standards of this world
are our own standards. Living and operating in a particular way
becomes so much a part of us that we have little to no connection
to the truth that there can and is so much more to life.
It reminds me of the story about the eagles who thought they were
chickens. When they were told they were eagles and could fly, they
did not believe it. They possessed the ability to fly but because
they bought into being ugly chickens for so long, they did not fly.
Eventually, two of the eagles took a chance and began to flap their wings and
they soared to the highest heights. However, there was one who
simply did not believe he could fly and continued life as if he
was a chicken.
This has been my story. I have not claimed my birthright to live my
full-potential until recently. Sometimes, the most challenging part
is taking that risk. Sometimes the biggest obstacle is that of my
mind.
This is what I work on today. Just like Morpheus said to Neo,
"I am trying to free your mind." This is what the Mothers seek
to do to me. Free my mind.
But it has been a while...37 years in the making-this mind of mine.
I grant it that I have actually be in the process of freeing my mind
for the last 7 years. Sometimes it is just easier choosing to act
as if I don't know.
But...that is not in the plan for me now. The Ancient Mothers
will have nothing other than my mind be freed from lack and limitation
in any form. So I move ahead removing one shackle at a time.
